Applications

Welding

Different welding techinques (i.e. resistance welding, capacitive discharge or CD welding, induction welding, ultrasonic welding, stud welding and tungsten inert gas welding)require the same kind of capacitor, namely these application needs high energy/power densities and a good response to pulses. Expecially for CD welding, the work curve is a sudden discharge which start with a high current input, that rise to a top value and than decrease.
The main characteristic that a welding capacitor should present is good response in charge/discharge events, translated in parameters: a strong robustness of dielectric and papers and a high resistance to current spikes. Preferably high voltage bank modules of capacitor, renouncing to compactness, accomplish the duty of current needs.
Both electrolytic and film capacitors are good candidates for welding machines, Kendeil suggest you to look up at K03, K04, K05, K06, K11 in electrolytic families and K36 & K37 series that are film capacitors.
Pease note from our catalouge that we have a part number reserved digit (“W” in 13th position) assigned to charge/discharge applications, this char remark special capacitors designed on purpose to sustain heavy discharge stress.
